Afternoons will be devoted to portfolio development, finding your artistic voice through explorations of a wide range of materials and themes.
The two weeks will culminate in a lively group gallery show and, hopefully, a portfolio-worthy piece! Material fee included.

This comics & animation summer camp will be co-taught with instructor Dean Stuart, teaching comics in the morning and stop-motion animation in the afternoon with Annie Wong.

Drawing comics will combine the fun of visual storytelling with traditional drawing techniques. We work traditionally, and our goal is to create a finished small comic/zine of their work by the end of the week. We will also engage in collaborative comic exercises and games to get to know each other and learn that making comics doesn’t have to be too difficult.
Stop Motion Animation will incorporate physical materials such as clay and cut-out paper to bring ideas to life. Students will also learn and apply storytelling, character building, and hands-on set design.

Dean Stuart is an author and illustrator who's been published in Boom! comics, Darkhorse, and Penguin Random House. His most recent work is the award winning graphic novel 'Cassi and the House of Memories'. Dean is also a gallery artist and has shown his work in Portland, New York, San Francisco, and Oakland. Dean works out of his studio at Helvella Art in Oakland.
